Route Nordbahntrasse

Through tunnels and over viaducts

Between Vohwinkel station and the Schee tunnel, on the slopes above the city of Wuppertal, lies the so-called Nordbahntrasse, a former railway line converted into a cycle path. Where 130 years ago the railway drove industrialisation, the former railway route enables a voyage of discovery through Wuppertal's industrial culture. The panels at around 50 locations along the former Rhenish line draw attention to the reciprocal impulses that came from the construction of the railway for the development of the city and its industry. The tunnels and viaducts with which the route cuts through the mountains and crosses valleys make up the special charm of the route today.
